How to find a video from a screenshot or a picture
If the screenshot comes from one of your own videos, drop it on Seekframe's window. Seekframe finds the scenes that look like it in all the videos in your folders and drives, and you can open the right video at that second. It searches your files, not the internet, and the picture never leaves your Mac.

Find the video a picture came from
- Add the folders with your videos to Seekframe (click Choose Folder… or drop them on the window) and let it index them.
- Drag the screenshot or photo from Finder or the desktop onto Seekframe's window.
- Seekframe shows the video moments and photos that look most like it, the closest first. Each video result shows the time of the scene.
- Select the result you want and press Return to open the video at that moment, or ⌘R to show the file in Finder.
You can also start from a result: select any photo or video moment and choose More Like This (⌘L) to find the scenes that look like it.
What it can match
Seekframe compares what the pictures show, not their exact pixels, so a screenshot, a smaller copy or a photo you took of a screen still leads to its scene. A picture of the same place taken on another day also finds scenes that look like it, such as the same beach or the same stage, which is often just as useful.
If you remember the scene but have no picture, type it instead: a man in a yellow jacket on a bridge
. See how to find a scene by describing it.
Why Finder and web image search can't do this
Finder searches mainly by name, kind and date, not by what a picture shows. A reverse image search on the web uploads your picture and looks for copies of it on public websites; it can't see the videos on your Mac or your drives. Seekframe works the other way round: it knows only your files, and everything happens on your Mac.
Questions
Can Seekframe find a film or a clip on the internet from a screenshot?
No. Seekframe searches only the videos and photos in the folders and drives you add to it.
Is searching with a picture free?
Yes. Dropping a picture on the window and More Like This are part of the free version, which searches one folder on your Mac with all its photos and up to 10 hours of video. Pro adds more folders, drives and all your video for a one-time $19.99.
Does it work for photos too?
Yes. The same picture finds similar photos as well as video moments. To clean up copies, Seekframe Pro also has a duplicate finder.
Is the screenshot uploaded anywhere?
No. Seekframe compares it with your files using a model that runs on your Mac.
